Help Me Heal My Broken Heart

This is Vic, Duana’s husband.  Duana asked that I share her post with you today while she is in recovery. Duana is coming through this wonderfully.

Wise Readers,

In an ironic twist of fate, this time the Love Scientist has a broken heart.  Or did have.  I recently learned that my genetically flawed mitral valve required fixing via open heart surgery, Or Else.

So yesterday, June 21st, the repair occurred.  And now I am lying in hospital, well-supplied with drugs the names of which I cannot pronounce at this moment, given their consciousness-impairing effects.  In fact, right now I probably can’t tell anyone my name.

That will change very soon, of course.  I’m told I’ll feel like superwoman in a few weeks~better than I’ve felt in perhaps 20 years.

But in the meantime, could you do me a favor? Please help me heal this week and next, by sending your words of support and encouragement.  You can put them in the comments section, or write to my email address of Duana@LoveScienceMedia.com.  Knowing you are rooting for me will be so uplifting.

Thank you.  Writing with and for you—readers in 30 nations all over the world—for two years now has been a great joy in my life.  Hearing your concerns, your feedback, your voices, has enlightened and inspired me and readers over the globe.  I can’t wait to see what you have to say next.

Cheers,

Duana

The author wishes to thank the Wise Readers who have shared their letters, comments and support for the past two years.  May we all share many more.

I am very glad to hear your surgery went well. Although I can not prove it I do believe reading trashy tabloid magazines does speed recovery. ;-)

Duana, you are the sunshine to so many hearts that it is only right for yours to be in top working order. How wonderful that medical science can make sure of it. My world is a brighter place because you are in it and obviously a lot of people feel the same way. Take care, funny girl, and get well soon. I know Vic will see that you have all the love and attention it takes to make that happen. Love you, Fleeta

Dear Duana,

Your wisdom, insight and compassion have been such a joy to read (I've followed every post for well over a year, even though I rarely comment). You have so much to give to the world, and I know that you will come through this ordeal with an amazingly strong heart, metaphorically and physically. ;-) Thank you for all the ways you've enriched the lives of your readers so far. I can't wait for you to feel like Superwoman! Sending much love and healing energy your way...

Love,
Dana

Best wishes for a speedy recovery! I am confident you will be cranking out amazing work again before we know it. We tell everyone we know about LoveScience. Maybe now you can write a book so we can give it as a gift when we get invited to weddings :)!

Dr D - first my youngest son (surgery in May and June to remove cancer found in his skull), and now you. Stop it people, just stop it.

I mention it, not to get the inevitable "awww". I am learning from my son, and I am learning from you. This is about you. These things teach all of us that we are not indestructible, but that we keep going and healing and believing in the next moment. And that we have many people who care about us . . . some of whom we have never met.

Get well soon. It matters to lots of people that you do ;-)

Thirteenth-sies!

Duana, in all seriousness, you rock. I don't have to tell you to get well, because I know that you know two great kids are depending on you to do that, and nothing I could say could give you more motivation than you already have because of them.

It was a blast substitute-blogging for you; I only wish it hadn't been for the purpose of giving you time to get things squared away before surgery. Hopefully we will work together again soon with no major medical emergencies involved.

All my best to all of the Love Science followers who keep Duana's life interesting!

Love,
Jennifer

Dearest Duana,

I am so happy to "hear" from you so soon after your surgery. I hope that you are feeling no pain right now. My boys and I have been praying for you, and we will continue to lift you up in our prayers. You made it through successfully -- hooray! Now, the fun part of healing. I hope that all goes well, and that you start to feel like yourself again soon. We need you, Duana, so please take good care and rest all you need. Until then, we'll be eagerly awaiting your next post.
You are loved, my dear friend! May you feel the love and support of all of your friends!
Hugs and Love,
Cathy

You have been on my mind all week. It has been such a joy to witness your network of family, friends, and colleagues rally around you, lifting you up with their collective strength. Not only does it take a village to raise a child, it takes one to live this life. It is a testament to who you are that you have such wealth.

So, now as you drift along your beautiful cocktail of pharmaceuticals, I wish for you a calm, quick, uncomplicated, and pain-free recovery. And if some of those should become more complicated, I pray for the wisdom and clear-thinking of your exceptional Doctor.

Holding your hand along with a hundred other friends,
Kelly

Dear Dr. Welch,
When I think of you, I feel as though I am looking at an ideal role model. A teacher who has more love and compassion for the world that I wish I could possess. I admire your strength and your spirit, for I can always count on you to help me untangle the the thoughts in my head and figure out my way. I am grateful for you and grateful to the Dr.'s who took such wonderful care of you. I am looking forward to many more years of learning from you. Thank you for being such a wonderful person. Much Much Much love!

Sincerely,
Jessica

"Not only does it take a village to raise a child, it takes one to live this life." --Kelly

Amen.

Dear Ones,

Thank you for being a village for me.

It has taken me over a week to feel well enough to read your kind words, and when I finally did, I could not stop crying for a while that there is so much goodness in the world, in my world. You come from all parts of my life; some of you I've known very long, others of you I've never met, still others I feel I've known because we've gotten to know each other here. All are invaluable, precious to me. (And Tom...bless you, I had no idea you were going through helping your youngest with cancer. Many healing thoughts and prayers to you and his mother and him.)

I had cherished fantasies (okay, delusions) that perhaps I could get back to you even as soon as this week for more Love Science, but... well, they call it open heart surgery for a reason, and my body is remembering assorted unsavory acts performed upon it whilst I was unconscious. I respect my surgeon immensely and am grateful he was able to effect a 100% total repair of the mitral valve--yet I admit harboring suspicions that he actually runs people over with a Mack truck, then collects big $$$ as the patients are left wondering what the hell happened. :)

So I will just have to take this a day at a time. Knowing you are cheering me on, loving and supporting me and my family as I heal, is its own wonderful medicine. They say every village has its medicine man- or woman...mine has many. I am fortunate.

Thank you~

Cheers,
Duana
